Raise funds for your school…whilst doing a good deed!

The Great Chicken Run 2019

Join the Kid’s event that puts the fun into fundraising!!

This year schools are being invited to take part in a fun and educational sponsored event.

What do we as a school get from this event?

Each school participating will receive 30% of the funds raised back to spend how you would like! This could be to improve your coop facilities if you already have hens or general learning resources that the school needs.

Pupils get to learn and get excited about fundraising and charitable giving for a Social Enterprise knowing their achievement will have a far reaching impact helping to give them that feel good factor! You could also take the opportunity to teach them a little on Animal Welfare and Farming.

Who are Give a Hen a Home C.I.C?

Give a Hen a Home is a Community Interest Company based in Lancashire, set up to help hens in need.

We rescue and rehome hens who would otherwise be culled at only 18 months old from commercial egg-laying farms.

The majority of these hens have plenty of life and love in them if they are given the chance and housed in correct conditions. Once having been rescued and given a little tlc these hens blossom, growing back their feathers and most begin to lay again.
They are very friendly and inquisitive not to mention intelligent. They have the brain capacity of a young toddler – can be taught to pick out colours and can learn to problem solve. We have many other ideas and aims, please check out our website and Facebook page to learn more.

What is it all about?

The sponsored run is a great event where your pupils can get involved helping Give a Hen a Home C.I.C which is a Not for Profit/Social Enterprise. The aim is to help generate much-needed funds to help us continue our important work and enable us to support more schools to help facilitate the keeping of hens making it accessible to all whilst also helping to rehome and save more hens in need.

A project also close to our hearts is helping to facilitate other options to the traditional school hatching project which are more beneficial to schools and much kinder to the animals.

The run is primarily aimed at Nursery & Primary school children however can be adapted as each school likes.

How does this fundraiser work?

We are asking that each pupil that takes part raises a minimum of £5 – each participant will receive a shiny bespoke ‘Great Chicken Run’ medal as a thank you for their efforts helping us to fundraise.

To take place between April – June 2019 you set the date – could fit in with your Spring/Summer plans perfectly?

The run distance etc can be very individual determined by each school/year/class so that its achievable to all and can fit in with any school sessions Ie – Daily Mile or a PE Lesson or a special event of its own. It is very flexible and can be completed however you like Run, Walk, Wheelchair or even Skipped! Whatever their age this is an event they will love to take part in.. Wings Optional!

And it’s all for a cause close to your hearts..

This fundraising will enable us to forge ahead with our ‘Hens Go to School Project’ rehoming hens into schools or providing amazing educational workshops and innovative alternatives to the school hatching programme.
